Usually you want to leave some space unfinished for storage. Some basements actually have a boat door to allow you to store a boat or extra vehicle in the basement. A work shop is nice to have also, especially if it has a door to the outside. To have a bedroom in the basement you have to have egress, which means an appropriate window or door in the room where someone would be sleeping.
